Lanterns at the Light
September 15, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm$65 - $75
Around the world, light festivals are inspirational.
September 15, 2016 was the annual fundraiser in the tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival at North Point Lighthouse. We’re also celebrating the relighting of the exterior of our lighthouse tower. The new lighting system allows us to bathe the tower in any combination of colors and has been made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Edward U. Demmer Foundation and the Mae E. Demmer Charitable Trust.

Beginning with the Full Moon Tours summer series, we’ve timed our event to happen during the Harvest Moon, which is said to be the brightest and fullest full moon of the year.
What went on:
- Asian culinary creations by Rice N Roll Bistro and MKE Localicious
- Silent auction included hand-made lanterns
- Beautiful one-of-a-kind lamps by artist Ray Zovar were for sale. See below
What is the Mid-Autumn Festival?
Festivals of light are traditionally celebrated around the world to symbolize peace, unity and hope. Lanterns At The Light is a reflection of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, which is held throughout Asia during the autumn full moon and features colorful lighted lanterns carried by children during evening celebrations.
About the Artist: Ray Zovar
Ray Zovar is a multi-media artist whose works at Lanterns at the Light are free-standing, illuminated sculptural paintings. His works evolved from bronze, acrylic and oil paintings with 3D elements, mosaics, fused glass, embedded metals, cut marble and granite, and now, light. His abstract compositions are a balance between “sparkle and vapidity, excitement and calm.” Ray likens his art to music, with a rhythm that moves through color, line, form and movement. His works, he believes, provoke the viewer’s attention, and provides a sense of correlation or involvement.
All proceeds benefit the North Point Lighthouse and museum, which North Point Lighthouse Friends are privileged to preserve and operate for the benefit of the public.
